Science at Work in Snowboarding

How can a boarder get so high in the air over a half-pipe? Why do racers carve their turns? Why do freeriders follow a zigzag path down a steep slope? A few basic ideas in science can answer these questions and explain why many other things happen the way they do in snowboarding.
