"God would have a very different image had He let me describe Him to the human race," says Kurt Bruner." I would have presented Him as nicer, less prone to wrath, more willing to overlook offense. I would have done a better job concealing aspects of His character. I suppose that is why He wrote His own book and why He revealed Himself in person. God didn't want to be promoted and sold. He wanted to be known.
"One of the reasons I believe in the God of the Bible is that He is much more than I want Him to be: Someone to fear, not just fancy. Someone willing to redeem, but entitled to condemn. Someone who said things I wish He hadn't. I can't imagine God as human invention, since in our desire to make Him better, we would have made Him less."
