PATRICIA ST. JOHN (1919-1993) was a nurse, missionary and author. She earned a nursing degree at St. Thomas’ Hospital in London in 1946. In the early 1950’s she moved to Tangier, Morocco where she served as a missionary nurse for 27 years. Throughout her life, she travelled extensively in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, as the settings of her stories reflect. In 1977, she returned to England, where she cared for elderly relatives and ministered from her home to youths, single parents, and the elderly. Patricia authored numerous God-honoring stories for children that are, perhaps, her most lasting legacy.

    Titles include:

    Star of Light

The man watched Kinza as a snake might watch a baby rabbit at play, waiting for the moment to strike. And for one breathless moment Hamid was sure that he would reach out and snatch her away. Hamid does not want his little blind sister, Kinza, to be sold to a beggar by their stepfather, so he decides to rescue her. Together they escape from their mountain village to a town where there may be a new home for Kinza. But this is only the start of their adventures.

    Treasures of the Snow

In a quaint village high in the Swiss Alps, Annette lives in a chalet with her little brother, Dani. Their Christmases are snowy and peaceful, full of gingerbread and good friends. In the summer, they cut hay for the cows whose milk is highly prized. But all isn't perfect in Annette's village. When an accident befalls Dani and he is badly hurt, only a dangerous crossing of a mountain pass can get him to a doctor's care. Annette is forced to confront her feelings toward the mean boy responsible for the accident. Can God's forgiveness come to this Alpine hamlet and restore the broken relationships?

    The Secret at Pheasant Cottage

Lucy has lived with her grandparents at Pheasant Cottage since she was a little girl, but she has dim memories of someone else. Who was it? What are her grandparents hiding from her? Lucy is determined to find the answers, but it turns out to be harder than she expected.

    The Tanglewoods' Secret

Ruth and her beloved brother Philip find solace in the expanse of the Tanglewoods' property. There they escape into bird watching, climbing, and general misadventures with their friend Terry.

    Rainbow Garden

When Elaine leaves her home in London to stay with the Owen family in Wales, she feels miserable and left out. It's only the little secret garden that she finds at the end of the rainbow that makes staying there seem worthwhile. And then something happens that changes everything.

    Three Go Searching

Everyone knows a person like Waffi—mischievous, willful, and having a knack for getting others into trouble. David, whose father is a missionary doctor in Africa, is Waffi's friend. Although Waffi occasionally gets David into some difficult situations, David is learning to be a witness for God. When Waffi and David find a sick servant girl and a mysterious boat, an exciting adventure begins for them.

    Where the River Begins

A confused and misguided youngster stays with a Christian family while his mother is institutionalized. The family helps him discover the source of the nearby river and the source of the Christian life.
